World-leading technical innovation and performance Garden Light LED manufactures an unmatched line of transformers with a proven track record and a nearly perfect performance history, with an impressive pedigree and a failure rate of less than one in a thousand units. Playing a leading role in the industry, and built with matchless components and superior mechanical characteristics, our transformers clearly demonstrate our commitment to top-notch quality and performance.
Garden Light LED recommends that all their LED luminaires be connected to the 15 volt AC tap on the landscape lighting transformer. While all of garden light LED’s fixtures can operate at voltages as low as 12 volts AC (many fixtures operate at even lower voltages), it is desirable to use the 15 volt AC tap. The reason for this recommendation is that using a higher voltage causes the luminaire to consume less current than it will at a lower voltage. This luminaire characteristic is caused by the constant current driver used to power the LEDs. The constant current driver is a power conversion device as it converts the available input power (voltage x current) into the power required to drive the LEDs. So when the input voltage is higher it takes less current to do a power conversion. Less current reduces the stresses seen by the wiring, the connections, and the driver. This is why Garden Light LED always recommends their LED fixtures be driven by the 15 volt tap.
